APYD is seeking written submissions from young people across the Australia-Pacific region for our first anthology, to be launched this coming August!

 

We are excited to learn from and promote key insights on topics under this thematic focus from youth in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands through this publication.

Accepted topics

APYD is seeking submissions from young people aged 18-35 years old across Australia, the Pacific Islands and New Zealand. Shortlisted submissions will be published in APYD’s flagship online anthology and all submissions that are of high quality and meet the below criteria will feature on our forthcoming online blog.

Theme: We are seeking submissions that align with the following thematic focus:
Fostering connection, empowerment, and opportunity for young people in Australia and the Pacific.

Possible topics, in alignment the above theme, include, but are by no means limited to: 

  • Youth diplomacy, people-to-people links and connection

  • Climate change, sustainability and the environment

  • Gender equality

  • Indigenous affairs

  • Democracy, politics, and participation

  • Regional security and power dynamics 

  • Opportunities for youth in the region

  • Challenges and possible solutions or recommendations

  • Connection between youth in Australia and the Pacific

Essential Submission Criteria

Written format

Word limit

References

Style: Op-ed style written pieces that share original insights on the Australia-Pacific relationship. We ask that submissions have not been shared or published elsewhere.

Word-length: Submissions should be between 500-1000 words. 

Referencing: Journalistic style (hyperlinks) referencing rather than academic bibliography. Submissions will go through a plagiarism check. 

Submission language: English preferred. However, if you would like to contribute in another language, please contact us before commencing and submitting your piece.

Submission method & deadlines

Please submit the following documents by 30th June 2021 to aus.pacyd@gmail.com 

  • 500-1000 word opinion piece attached as a word document.

  • CV attached as a PDF (this won’t be used to assess your submission, but will provide us with insights on your background and experience for future opportunities with APYD). 


We aim to respond to all submissions by the end of July 2021.
